Part One
In part one Ron guides 15 year old Megan Emmons on her first big wall. Megan learns basic clean climbing techniques during an ascent of Ron’s Touchstone Wall in Zion National Park. Touchstone was the first Zion wall to be climbed entirely hammerless. The techniques Ron used on this historic climb provide an example of how walls can be preserved for future generations.
Part Two
In part two, Jeff leads Scott Thompson on the 1997 first ascent of Lodestone Tower, employing a mix of difficult free climbing, aid from nuts, cams and hooks, and about thirty pitons. In the years since, Jeff has wondered if Lodestone could be climbed completely clean. In the video, Lowe demonstrates the methods that might allow the climb to be done with a lighter touch.
