Ogden Climbing Parks will host the second annual Cassar Jewelers ClimbFest - Ogden 2008 to be held April 18 & 19, 2008. This event will feature the best of mountain adventure writing and arts, as well as provide a venue for the interested public to experience the most basic forms of climbing on small boulders on the foothills east of Ogden. In addition, a cleanup of trash and graffiti in the St. Joes' Boulder Field will be performed and efforts to mitigate braided trails and erosion, begun last year, will be continued. Photographs, paintings, drawings and sculpture from submissions (open to anyone), chosen by judges, will be displayed at selected Ogden restaurants for two weeks prior to the weekend event. On the Thursday before the event, all the art will be transported to the Eccles Community Arts Center and redisplayed for the weekend. This will give the public a chance to see the entire collection in one place. The book and art fair will each be judged by a panel of experts , and cash as well as other prizes will be awarded. Guests of honor will include nationally and internationally famous writers, artists and climbers.
On Friday night, there will be a public dinner and award ceremony held at the Union Station. Saturday morning will be the climbing and cleanup events open to the public. Beginning Saturday afternoon and into the evening, there will be multiple book readings, presentations by Pat Ament, John Bachar, Lynn Hill, Warren Macdonald and Jennifer Jordan and a reception at the Eccles Community Arts Center. This year’s addition of Cassar Jewelers ClimbFest Ogden 2008 will represent the first, full-scale version of what will become one of the major events on the American mountain adventure community calendar and will eventually bring thousands of visitors to Ogden each year. Cassar Jewlers ClimbFest Ogden 2008, in combination with Ogden’s High Adventure Mountain Film Festival 2008, in September, will highlight the seasons for the local and national climbing communities.
